Mike Mansfield was a friend of my mother and grandmother, according to letters we have in our family archives. I never met him, but I remember getting Christmas cards from him when I was a kid. When Kennedy was shot, Mike sent Mom an autographed copy of his eulogy.

He was a senator from Montana and Majority Leader loved and respected by both sides of the aisle. Served in the Navy, Army, and Marines. He was Ambassador to Japan under Nixon. The library at my Alma Mater is named after him.

There are none like him today.
