Geez, I remember being at Fenway Park--not too far behind the Sox dugout--and starting, when the Red Sox were down on runs, a late-inning game chant: "Babe Ruth's Daughter!" If my memory is correct, Mo Vaughn was about to hit or was at the plate! All this, as the Sox were trying to knock out the Yanks in a tie-standing game to determine who'd advance to the playoffs.

At this time in history, Babe Ruth's daughter was rooting for the Red Sox! Myself, and Babe Ruth's daughter ended up on the the short end of the stick as we lost that game; and didn't advance!

However, now comes a variation with Barry Goldwater's daughter:

Indeed, Barry Goldwater's daughter will have better luck than me and Babe Ruth's daughter!

Obama will win!!!

PS: Of course, the Red Sox went on, shortly thereafter our effort, to win two world series--thus breaking the jinx beholden on Babe Ruth's daughter--myself included.

Kudos to Barry Goldwater's daughter! She will win; and so will we!!!

I think that a strong candidate - a Barack-like candidate - must break with both parties and run as an independent. This would have been the perfect cycle for that sort of run - a 'throw ALL the bums out' campaign.

Perot had the right idea, but was the wrong guy to pull it off.

Either that, or some catastrophic Whig-like implosion of one of the parties might open the door.

Otherwise, it will be mostly mediocre candidates - with the too-often unqualified Palin and disastrous Bush - and a choice of the lesser of two evils.

I think if Obama wins, he should renounce his party affiliation and declare himself an independent. That will never happen, but he would show himself to be a true statesman. Probably more likely that McCain would do it - he ain't gonna run for a second term, and his party doesn't like him much anyway...
