Some excerpts from recent press releases

Auto-By-Tel will provide Infoseek consumers with head-to-head automobile comparisons and a new and used online vehicle buying service that will help them get the best price on their car of choice.
ONLINE VEHICLE BUYING SERVICE SEEK SHOULD SEE SOME REVENUE SHARING FROM ANY TRANSACTIONS ORIGINATING FROM THEIR SITE.

The agreements place Ameritrade(www.ameritrade.com), Datek (www.datek.com) and DLJdirect (www.DLJdirect.com) in prominent
positions within the new channel, shortening the distance between the online investor and his or her transaction.
YOU COULD CALL THESE BANNER ADS WITHOUT THE BANNERS

Among the deals announced today are several major deals which include sponsorship agreements, advertising contracts and transaction revenue sharing arrangements. "We are very excited about the potential of the new channels business model," said Motro. "The channel model should enable Infoseek to build on the core banner advertising business, add a base of sponsorship revenue and provide potential for additional transaction-based revenues."
REVENUE SHARING ARRANGEMENTS WITH POTENTIAL FOR MORE

Infoseek executives said the completely overhauled Web site, which will formally come online on Monday, will be the first of a series of announcements that could include investments in Infoseek by one
or more content partners.
PERHAPS MORE NEWS TO COME

I guess I would have to agree that the press releases have concentrating mainly on content providers but there are some definite revenue generators there too. Perhaps the press releases were targeted more at potential advertisers than investors.

It seems to me that an effort is being made to get these press releases out before the earnings announcement. Why? My gut feeling (which I hate to admit) is that the report is going to be bad and they're trying to generate some positve pr hoping that the stock price won't dump too bad.

I can understand your concern, but: most of what's been covered in the last few days' press releases has to do with stuff that's already up and running at the SEEK site. It wouldn't have made any sense at all to postpone the announcements. And I should think the site reorganization (I like it) has been in the works for some time, so no point postponing that either.
