"I hope Obama maintains his equanimity in the face of this overwhelming popularity."

I have a feeling Michelle will deal with that.

I agree he's a great man. In addition, he's the right man with the right policies for the right times. But I worry a little about the capacity for hero worship in this country. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I hope Obama maintains his equanimity in the face of this overwhelming popularity.<<

I never liked that saying to be honest. Absolute power does not corrupt absolutely. It depends on the person. Obama has talked about the concept of self actualization. Obama seems to have a good sense of himself and has his ego under control.

Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson, never succumed to egotisical shallowness. I think they offered to make Washington a king and he turned it down.

Obama has a personality much like Lincoln's. I never read anywhere that Lincoln was power hungry. Lincoln, like MLK and Bobby Kennedy only had a passion to help others and get rid of the bad guys. People like that do exist.
