Well, KLP asked a question that is often raised, but comparing private to public is apples and oranges because of government requirements.
I became disenchanted one semester when I shadowed a diagnostician through the system. She was requred by law to administer IQ and achievement tests on a regular basis to children who couldn't even hold their heads up, much less answer a question or show improvement. These were profoundly handicapped who had to have diapers changed, be fed, loaded onto special buses. WHen you average in that cost with that of functioning children, of course the average is much higher.
