>>they have slapped us with a 1,700 special assessment due within...get this....2 months. If we pay after 2 months, the amount will be 1,950 and if we wait even more, of course they will tack on even more late fees. <<

Florida law does not allow that.

"Also, if the declaration or bylaws so provide, the association may charge an administrative late fee in addition to such interest, in an amount not to exceed the greater of $25 or 5 percent of each installment of the assessment for each delinquent installment that the payment is late.""

They can only charge 5% or $85 on the $1,700 "if the declaration or bylaws so provide" by 718.116 (3).

Well Les, it's obvious the government should pay the missing HOA fees as if all the condos were privately owned, and buy the foreclosed Apt. complexes. We can't let the least among us suffer the most. It's only Compassionate Conservatism!

This socialsim ain't just creeping anymore! It's galloping socialism! Even I'm a little alarmed. When economics go south, governments reach for the socialism.

What's the larger meaning there?

RE:"The condo complex wife and I live in has 353 units. We received a letter from the association stating that 142 of these units are in Lender Foreclosure. They state that all these people are of course not paying their HOA dues anymore....and many others that are not in actual foreclosure YET are following suit as well. Because of this, and to cover their shortfall, they have slapped us with a 1,700 special assessment due within...get this....2 months. If we pay after 2 months, the amount will be 1,950 and if we wait even more, of course they will tack on even more late fees."

Just wait 'til the government tries that. Sounds like a certain candidates tax plan. Sock it to those who can afford...give to those who can't, Prop up government jobs while your at it.
