So we can't use the standard deviation to work out a probability of something happening using the normal distribution.<< So that is what they mean by a power curve rather than a normal curve. I had never heard of a power curve before. Still when mandelbrot says things could be worse than anything since the revolutionary war, one does have to take notice.
