The farther we go from those goals and the closer we move to a straight redistribution goal, the less support I give.

I assumed that but it's important to make that distinction. We differ on this. I believe in the general social importance of the safety net and of social security and medicare as important for the general welfare. I've gathered from your posts that you do not.
