Indeed, for whatever reason the Soviet Union was anti-science on a bunch of fronts as well.

But that does not explain why Libertarians in the USA today have gone nuts. Not all of them, I know. But lots of prominent ones, and most of their Think Tanks. This is not good because eventually when one think Libertarian, one starts to think of anti-science nutcases. It is best for them to put their own house in order.
