Thank you I did not have a lot of time to spend on my reply to him. But your read of history is dead on with my understanding. Only the government could believe we can solve our economic problems by destroying crops.

Unrecognized at the time, a monetary contraction left folks without the currency to engage in commercial transactions.

Another egregious example was FDR ordering the destruction of six million hogs to support prices - while many were actually starving.

And yet the mythology trumps serious analysis.
