OT: I'm sure Honda was more than willing to sacrifice a clutch to get a nice 0-60 time in R&T. That motor only produces power at high rpm, which is why the S2000 is a great track toy, where you can keep the revs up, but not so great around town.

I think the car is light enough to get plenty of wheelspin with that kind of launch, and you probably get a lot of clutch slip as well, and I'm pretty sure the motor bogs down pretty far as the tires hook up, so you aren't putting the entire 200+ hp into the drivetrain all at once. I'd bet you can smell the clutch burning after that kind of launch.

But it points out that the way the magazines test the car is not the same way you'd drive one that you intend to keep for very long.

OT: I read the R&T Subaru Impreza WRX article from this month's issue again, and it says "a brutal but necessary redline launch ..."

I guess you need to keep the turbo spooled up during launch, so they blast out a 6800 rpm redline launch on the thing. With the S2000, it's a 4-banger that only develops 160 ft-lb of torque, and way up in the rpm range, so they had to redline that one too.

So again, magazine 0-60 and 1/4 mile times do not always translate into real world driving comparisons.
