Of course we owe them something and need to reform Medicare dramatically before it eats up the ENTIRE federal budget.

But the point is, those increased "costs" are FIXED to various measures that cannot be altered UNLESS somebody reforms medicare and social security, and they are in an ascending curve right now, and have been for a while.

So if you include medicare and SS "increases" in debt, which are real debt but uncontrollable until entitlements are reformed, the increase in entitlement debt basically overshadows all other debt management.

It serves to cloud the issue of whether a certain administration is doing a good job or not. Mixing up entitlement debt with public debt is what wingers ALWAYS DO to try to claim Clinton didn't generate surpluses. Its a way of obvuscating the reality of the federal budget and making everybody look bad, and Dumbya somehow LESS BAD.

I knew you could never make the point that Clinton DID NOT pay off Reagans debt without bringing in the scam entitlement debt into the picture. The fact is, Clinton DID pay off Reagans debt, which was not entitlement debt, and Clinton DID create surpluses in the public debt arena.
