If your Grandfather had both taken the government payments and also maintained full production, you can well imagine the result - production in excess of the signed contract would be destroyed. The concept of fraud has changed little since the 1930s. But still no home burnings involved.

Many did burn their own business or home for the insurance money. Perhaps after running through the government checks, and counting on selling the cattle under the table, he resorted to burning his home down for the insurance.

I think you're going to learn that quite a bit of what you have come to believe to be true is based in things which didn't happen the way you were told.
