A friend of mine, back in 2000, was an employee at a starter & alternator shop. It did around a million a year in sales, I think he made about 35K as an employee with no benefits.

The owner of the business was ready to retire; sold the business to my friend and one other guy who created a partnership. Financed 100% of the deal (neither had any money).

This happens all the time. Often, people make their own opportunities. We don't know the facts about Joe or what his relationship with the employer is or anything else. The attacks on this guy from the Left have been relentlessly unjust.

What's really confusing to me is how the liberals fool themselves into believing their own nonsense. I think many of them have had life experiences that aren't too much different than those you and I and people we know have gone through. Yet they will convince themselves that Joe the Plumber could NEVER hope to own a plumbing business before they even dare to think about how Obama might not be the "messiah" they were looking for.

LOL. No one said he couldn't own his own business but given his background, its not likely and no matter how many 'bootstrap stories' you pull out of your hat, they won't make it any more true.

Huh? It's not that he can't EVER buy a small business. Of course he can. The point is that he cannot, unless he's inherited money or won the lottery or something, buy a business the size of what he claims he was looking to buy, anytime soon.
