I never imagined in my lifetime that I would see such amounts of public money thrown to the wind with so little discussion and such a lack of regulation and oversight.

Combine a financial crisis with an election that will likely see a change of parties in the executive suite and an administration like this one that has virtually from Day 1 looked out for "its own," and that is what you get. A perfect storm for some last minute thievery.

Bush's ideology got us into this mess, but we are lucky the Treasury is headed by Paulson. Snow would have been a disaster. Bernanke is an improvement over Greenspan.

A worldwide run on banks and the total collapse of the global financial markets are not out of the question. It is no time for finger pointing. We have to get this situation under control. Whatever it takes. Mistakes will be made.

I just hope Obama gets elected and decides to call on Robert Rubin. He has a proven track record. Phil Graham otoh may be McCain's choice.
