It isn't as if those who file income taxes are getting some sort of huge government benefit even if they have a decent level of income.

I never said that the benefit was huge, only that they are getting a net government benefit, rather than being net payers of federal taxes. A person fitting my example would have a net negative rate rather than the net positive rate the wealthy pay.
