Sam;

What was the original reason or intent to create the EC? At a political party the subject came up with the suggestion that we do away with it. The question was asked why it was created and no one could answer that question.

I can't get too exercised over the Electoral College. I can understand why it was set up the way it was. It seems outdated now. States just aren't the critical entities they were at that time. Interests don't vary by state that much anymore. Metropolitan areas form in multiple states and are often the more useful construct.

I think that the all-or-nothing approach taken by most states is more the problem than the fact that small states have disproportionate representation. It seems to me that it would be more useful to go after than than the College, itself.
