You mean it wasn't peak "dot-com", just peak sock puppets that caused the crash ?

Even assuming abiotic origin for gas and oil, they need to find their way to traps where they can accumulate in economic quantities.

If the hydrocarbons are not trapped, they dissipate in the atmosphere or get eaten by bacteria.

If oil was not eaten by bugs, there would be 10 feet of oil on top of the ocean.
