US debt is not US spending. Your raising a separate issue.

And most of the large programs that have clear connections to either party (unlike say defense which was started before the parties where in their modern configuration, and which is an nearly inherent part of having a government), where started by Democrats. Many of those programs are entitlements which don't have to be reauthorized each year to succeed. Since the Dems started most of the spending they share a very large part of the responsibility for the debt that comes from that spending.

Also to the extent that Republicans should be blamed for debt and spending that doesn't absolve Democrats for overspending. "He's guilty too" doesn't mean that your not.

So reality hardly backs the idea that we should never "have to hear about tax and spend liberals again", unless they change they way they have behaved for over 7 decades.
