Agree totally. That would be the conventional wisdom, especially if the intellectuals/moderates in the republican party regain influence. If Obama wins there is a real possibility the soc. cons in a death struggle give Palin the nod in 2012, and the potentially unavoidable self-destruct sequence may well come to pass.

are moving in the opposite direction as the rest of the world

It's been an anachronism for a long time. It'd be nice to finally see the veil of separation between church and state become a true wall
