I think there's good and bad about all this stuff. It probably really just depends on the quality of internet service and the machine being used. Nothing is perfect - god knows my cable isn't

I get "free" long distance as part of my cell phone package. I don't even have the capability of LD on my land lines, except at a horrible charge if I accidentally used it. I also have 1000 anytime cell minutes and rarely use 200 of them, mostly on LD calls to family all over the place. I've been grandfathered in on the cell deal and it's cheaper to just keep 1000 minutes than it would be to change.

Since we're talking phones here...

I asked this over on PFP but see if anyone here has the answer.

Little Smithee is studying in Switzerland in January. Be there for 4 months. She has a Blackberry Curve, which is a quad band GSM phone so it should work there.

What should I do for service? Sign up with a European Carrier?

Also thinking about setting up her computer for Skype so she can call us.
