I disagree about keeping land line. Land lines are the most expensive phone source there is, and MM is trying to cut expenses.

If he must keep a line other than cell, he could get Magic Jack ($30 per yr) or Vonage ($24.99 month).....or he could even use someone else since I've noticed there is a lot of competition with VOIP coming on line......and still have all of his free National long distance.

He should keep the cell and find the most appropriate plan for his situation. Making all of his long distance calls via the Internet, just in case the power goes out.

When/if he chooses to use VOIP, he should talk to some neighbors or local computer geek to see which service they like best.
