Tim, there is a reason why the good folk at Texas Pacific and Silver Lake Partners took Seagate private in an LBO a few years ago saying that they would be much better off as a private company (using debt, of course), and then took them public about 3 years later when they had paid down a lot of debt, somehow "forgetting" that the business would have been better run as a private company. It's because it was so much easier and more lucrative to rape the company as a public entity and the many anonymous public shareholders.
