Yes. Government proposed some form of rural electrification prior to '29, I do believe, then got it going in '35. Prior to all this, the windmill industry was growing leaps and bounds (as much as 50% per year growth in the mid 20's, as I recall ...tough to find those numbers again..). But of course, with public funds about to string up power lines to all outlying areas, the windmill industry all but died, very quickly.

Later, much public money went to subsidize windmill research which was sometimes dismantled and sold in parts for pennies on the dollar.

Today, there is a windmill invention which provides the same output as current operating models, with 40% fewer materials going into it, thanks to an unusual design with multiple windmills on one unit.

Such ideas as this likely would have been with us decades ago but for government interference. This is not to mention the development and use of other green power sources which surely suffered thanks to the Rural Electrification Program.
