>>First of all, digital cameras suck.<<

Rocky -

Yes, they do. The main reason for this is because they all have very limited storage capacity, so they are designed to produce pictures with low information density.

If an inexpensive, larger capacity storage medium were available for digital cameras, then the cameras could be designed to allow users to select a higher quality image setting, while still getting a reasonable number of shots per session. Hmmm. I wonder who could produce such a medium?

You are correct about the lithium batteries, though. They are very expensive and most people can't afford to carry a bunch of spare ones.

And by the way, even though digital cameras suck, they are selling well, and the market is growing rapidly.

All: interesting report on tech sector in general going forward. All the factors at work that will benefit the companies mentioned will also benefit IOM.

>Besides, wouldn't there be a file compatibility issue if you tried to theoretically insert a no.hand disc from a digital camera into a Win95 machine-- And then to a PowerMac?<

No. Macs have been able to read pc discs for a long time.

Two Reasons n.Hand is Better Than Transfer Cable

(1) Digital cameras cannot store too many pictures in memory. If one takes an extended trip to skiing, cruise, over-seas, or camping, then one would need a bundle of n.hand's to store pictures.

(2) N.hand makes digital camera accessible to non-computer users. They can take the n.hand disks to K-Mart and have the pictures developed there. Instead of going every week, with n.hand they can save weeks of disks and have them developed at the same time.

With n.hand, everyone will have reasons to buy a digital camera: higher picture quality, convienence, and reusability (of n.hand disks). In fact, if cheap enough, one can just save n.hand disks as compact photo albums.

Rocky,

First, I am honored by your response. It's the first one in months.

I agree with all you said. (sob)

My point is batteries are not standing still. Li is expensive now, but when the next technology comes online, prices will drop. Perhaps a better power source right now would be the rechargable batteries I use for my wireless mice - they are called Renewal, and are alkaline. The cost is twice regular batteries but they can be recharged about 30 times.

As to the format issue you mentioned, the worst case would be if both PC and MAC were in the same position vis-a-vis n-hand as they are to each other, that is, they both need adaptor software to get the data off the disk.

Personally, I do not hold out much hope for the caddy solution. I would be satisfied with a combo n-hand/floppy/PCMCIA peripheral for PCs. Just add n-hand to the floppy/PCMCIA PC add-on devices already available at Fry's. If there is no room, jetison one or the other. The the customer decide what his needs and budget are.
