Most semi companies have been, or are currently, reducing inventories. At some point in the future, this will reverse and there will be a pickup in demand. Since we are seeing this trend across the broad spectrum of companies, I view this as a major positive going forward. Naturally, this leads us back to one of the main issues. When will this pickup occur?

We've seen from past SCE cycles that the lows create an excess in pessimism, which leads to companies reducing inventories at a time where they should be either holding steady or increasing. To some extent, ignoring the prognostications and watching the data should give us a more realistic picture.

Boom...Bust...trough...pickup....Boom....repeat...

The conference calls that I have listened to our guiding about 15% down in total revs both for suppliers like VSH and manufacturers like the EMS companies. It is not a cliff like the 2001 contraction but based on their book to bill numbers.
