Colin Powell's "Meet the Press" comments on compassionate conservatism in 2000 were interesting; he really believed it was a genuine new political stripe, and it kept most Republican moderates in the fold for Bush.

I have no doubt that part of the reason Powell is voting for Obama on Tuesday was the betrayal of that promise by all the Rovian gutter turds that were tossed later.
