Typically in this case being wrong.

Its an issue of semantics not physical facts. Over the long run definitions follow usage, and this trend is major and not new.

But it might still be considered not to have advanced enough to reasonably change the definition yet.

Also if the usage does change to the point where it makes no sense not to consider it the formal definition, it might not be totally a good thing. You would have to use some other word to define when government takes control of the means of production.

So it would be best if some other term is used. I've seen "socialism-lite", but that would tend to imply less socialism, not something different than socialism, even something somewhat similar to socialism. "Statist" is to vague, also applying to controls by the state that are very different than the ones we are considering.
