Most white "diversity" back then came from various national backgrounds whose impact has been diluted over a few generations. That plus the general homogenization of the TV/shopping mall/suburban culture most people live in has erased the rest.

The only sharp cultural differences now come from language, religion and skin color in most cases, if then. For example, we were at an Indian restaurant the other night and had a waiter who was clearly born and raised in India, based on his accent. It was nice to hear the real thing again instead of diluted something-American "ethnicities".
