I can't say I feel sorry for Palin. I don't see her as an "innocent" in this. She isn't stupid, exactly, but if she had any real political sense, she would have known she wasn't ready for the national scene. She hasn't studied. Her kids don't appear to respect education. She will become an "oddity" on the political scene. Perhaps she will get enough support from the evangelical, hard right RW base to make a little noise, but it won't be much, and she won't have any real political power in the future. Her approval rating in AK has gone down in the last month, and when she can't give away enough money to her fellow rugged individualist Alaskans, and when they see that the Permanent Fund has dropped precipitously, she may well not even be reelected governor in 2010.

All just the opinion of someone in the Lower 48 who has never been to AK, and most of what I "know" has been learned in the past 2 months or so. I'll be happy to be corrected by Snowshoe if he wants to weigh in.

After seeing you and John getting all soft on us, I examined my heart, and I can't dredge up any sympathy at all for Palin.

If she showed any sign of understanding her own limitations for this job, any humility about her lack of qualification, maybe I could. But from her first, "I didn't hesitate for a second!" exclamation, to her now claiming her Second Amendment right is being violated because reporters are attacking her for questioning Obama's relationships, she has done nothing but show her almost alarming belief in her dubious abilities and an even more alarming ignorance about the world.

Maybe if I had to be stranded on the tundra with someone, I would choose Palin, but I still ahve yet to believe her Alaskan hobbies transfer in a significant way to leader of the Free World.

Hm. Actually I think I might choose Todd on that tundra.

Just watched Lawrence Eagleburger give among the most embarrassing interviews I've ever seen. Took back the public criticisms of Palin he made yesterday. Every word of it. Went from saying she was not ready to saying she had more experience than Obama. Complete party line.

There was a time when I thought he was a fairly independent minded Republican. Lots of reputations going down in flames.
