I can't think of VP running mate from a failed campaign who was nominated.

Just heard Lawrence O'Donnell walk that territory. I kept trying to think of one and haven't come up with any. A terrific point.

Walter Mondale. Granted he was the incumbent VP who lost but it's a similar notion, which is why I mentioned how Palin could be the Mondale of her generation.
