Skeets, When I was serving with the draft Army, nearly all non career military, which were most of us, were liberal, but not Democrats. Not when LBJ was the nastiest sob ever, until the next guy. If not when we joined, we certainly skewed left after a few weeks of experiencing how the right ran things.

After graduating from college, I worked as a civilian for the DOD. The majority of the military, and the civilians who worked for the military, were way right of center. I think it remains that way today. However, I do think involuntary extensions of enlistments and too many too long tours in Iraq may be bringing some in the Army back around to becoming Americans again. The same is not true of the Squids and the Zoomies, who rarely get killed on the ground. And the Jar Heads are more like a bike gang than a branch of the service.
