The article is indeed very confusing; they mix in all those that the Kremlin thinks are supposedly impeding their imperialistic interests in expanding their grip on other nations, but it must be taken into account with other articles from Russia and their TV propaganda - another Russian goal is the destruction of the NATO alliance - as Russia is unable to establish an answer to the loss of the Warsaw Pact and controlling power of the former USSR. My read of the article that first they degrade Obama as he may solidify the relationship with EU and this will be a direct loss to Russia. The attack on Soros is also interesting and I guess why. Remember that McCain was and is a great supporter of Georgia but Russia was able to prove that the EU is helpless. So if McCain is elected he can only offer verbal support to Georgia and Azerbaijan because of international agreement related to the Black Sea – proving to the world that the US has its limitation and Russia will rein supreme in the region. The US can not move a maritime force into the Black Sea or any military force of decent size, due to international agreements but EU trough Romania and Bulgaria can and protect Ukraine of invasion or the closing the Azerbaijan Georgia Turkey corridor from the Caspian Basin to Europe, so any sign of closing ranks between the US and EU are against Russia interests. More so leaving this corridor open the trans- Siberian silk way will be modernized by two double lane railroads from Western China through Kazakhstan and later Turkey to Europe with European gauges not Russian – a direct hit to Russian exports/trade in both direction – EU or China / India, which will diminish the Russian influence and control of resources in Central Asia (Railroads are very significant in the Russian psychology – Trotsky defeated he White Army by having control of the railroad system - Central Asia and Siberia is an immense landmass scarcely populated) Further Russia are making strides in opening for them the energy markets of China and India by placing production traps to the Stan's in Central Asia. A resurgent US power in Afghanistan and influence on Pakistan is again against Russia vital economic interests of expansion to India and China. A contemplated gas and crude oil pipe line is envisioned to pass trough Afghanistan and Russia wants control there Further by having a new market for their natural resources in Asia Russia can squeeze the life out of the EU and trough EU energy dependence on Russia, resulting for all purposes, with the ability to destroy NATO alliance and thereafter the EU, and achieving a long historical dream of control of Europe politics. Russia wrongly thinks that McCain will leave US troop in Iraq and not bolster NATO troops in Afghanistan, further they think that McCain will be an isolationist and leave the EU to the dogs – e.g. Russia to devour. (let aside that they hope McCain will prematurely die because of his age ) It is worthwhile to watch Russian News broadcasts and the inflammatory rhetoric against the US during those days of economic panic The most interesting part is the insinuation of a major World military conflict which I think is complete BS (but Biden mentioned it) – but some times is said be careful for what you wish for Have much more to add but not in this forum - but think like a Russian and what is good for Russia NOT - the EU or the US or the World BWDIK
