I think Obama will stop the war, incentivize alternative fuels and do something with healthcare. Those things, alone, will change the US budget pretty dramatically. Healthcare costs the US economy 2 trillion per year while providing substandard care. The Fed pays about 550 billion of this per year today into medicare, medicaid and veterans benefits. Most other countries spend about that same amt of money IN TOTAL to insure their entire population! We spend double the GDP everybody else does to insure only 2/3 of our nation. If Obama came in on day one and mandated the federal govt healthcare plan for everybody, it would result in a massive tax/benefit CUT for most of the population while insuring everybody and saving money in the long run because the uninsured wouldn't have to go to the emergency room. Meanwhile ONE TRILLION that is now being spent every year on this waste would go back into the economy for more productive purposes. Thats healthcare. On fossil fuels, another 500 billion per year flush from our economy to the ME. Simply mandate or make electric cars available to the masses with subsidies. Pay for these elec car subsidies with the iraq money we save when we stop the war. Electric car subsidies will not cost 10 billion per month and will essentially HALT foreign oil, since we have enough oil of our own, today to utilize for needs outside of gasoline. The problem with doing things the quick and fast way like this, is that you can't get these dramatic things through congress with all the special interests. Especially altnertive energy, the red states block it. But no more. Obama needs to push all this really dramatic legislation through in his first term and by the time the republican looters come back, everyone will hvae healthcare and be driving a plug in hybrid.
