Technology Brief -- BORLAND INTERNATIONAL INC.:
Analysts Surprised at Profit
Posted for Latest Quarter

Borland International Inc. surprised analysts yesterday by posting a slight
profit, with the Scotts Valley, Calif., software maker saying the results showed
it was succeeding in turning itself around. For its second quarter ended Sept.
30, Borland said net income was $1.5 million, or three cents a share,
compared with a loss of $14.3 million, or 40 cents a share, a year ago.
Analysts expected the company to break even. Sales were $42.5 million, up
8% from last year's $39.3 million. Once the provider of general-purpose
application programs, Borland was forced by declining sales to focus on selling
software-programming products aimed at industry professionals. In after-hours
trading following the announcement, Borland shares rose 63 cents to $11.

Microsoft Windows 3.11is a well-known product which I consider to be excellent.

What??!!!?? This is a joke, right? Solid performer? Oh, I see, you're yanking my chain.

At first I thought you were serious. One of the most unstable pieces of work I ever laid eyes on.

Of course, Win 3.11 did bring about one of the most innovative software techniques I've seen in my time: Whenever it crashes, blame something else!!! "ABC.EXE has caused a General Protection Fault". In years of supporting hundreds of Win 3.11 workstations, I never once saw it say "Windows has caused a General Protection Fault".

Yes, it definitely wins an award of some kind....
