It really goes equally between both partisan groups. I read a post by manalagi yesterday that was completely inaccurate regarding the McCain health plan. After all these months he was jumping on it but had not taken the time to actually learn what his proposal was. Voters deal with sound bites instead of facts unfortunately and this was an example where I thought...too bad. At least know the program one posts against.

They have hurled all sorts of racist and otherwise offensive smears and slurs in their efforts to show McCain as the better choice

I will not argue that neither party is liberal in the classical sense and both have become liberal in the contemporary sense.
