Mike Ditka Mocks Obama on Campaign Trail
@ 11:30 am by Hill Staff
Mike Ditka, the legendary Chicago Bears coach who Republicans thought of running opposite Barack Obama in the 2004, took shots at his fellow Chicagoan Friday while campaigning with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The ESPN analyst joined Palin in Latrobe, Pa., CNN reported, where he mocked Obama's campaign theme of "change."

“We talk about change,” Ditka said. “Change from what, to what, and how? How you gonna do anything? Don’t talk about what you’re going to do, prove you can do something!"

Ditka was almost tapped by the Illinois GOP to run against Obama in 2004 after Republican candidate Jack Ryan dropped out amid allegations surfacing in a messy divorce. Republican Alan Keyes eventually ran against Obama, who won with 70 percent to Keyes's 27 percent.

“Thing I know about Pennsylvania, you're great people, you're hardworking people,” Ditka said before introducing Palin. “I'm not here because I'm a Republican, which I am, and I'm not here because I'm a conservative, which I am. I'm here because I am an American.”
