Unfortunately, due to runaway social programs, our country has no money to develop a modern transportation system. Although CJ's $10 Billion pricetag for a Houston/Dallas line is overstated by a few hundred percent, it IS an expensive undertaking.

Still, in lieu of building and updating large airport and highway infrastructure, the idea of express trains between major cities makes a hell of a lot of sense as it would allow you to power trains with nuclear power, which ultimately, would be a huge contributor to a solution for our energy requirements.

There are obvious candidates for such trains. Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio is an example of one such route. LA to SF and LA to Vegas is another. Later, routes like Dallas/St Louis and Vegas/Phoenix could be added.

Creating hubs in Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, and Las Vegas would make a hell of a lot of sense.

And it could be done with public, not government, financing, were a couple of big money guys to get behind it. Who has a bigger interest in something like this than a Sheldon Adelson or Warren Buffet?

Every little bit helps but it's no solution.

The Pelosis will just use it as a smoke screen reason to delay drilling and converting to NG and coal.

There is no one solution. And while there may be delays in coal because of environmental concerns, why would she delay NG and oil? And you talk like Pelosi will be the boss....she will not be. The head of the party will be Obama.

As for the danger from a third rail, there are dangers with everything electric....from power lines, power poles, transformers etc. The best we can do is put in protective measures to prevent as many accidents as possible.
