The economic benefit to NK from counterfeiting always seemed small versus selling nuclear technology or missiles, for example. One interpretation is that the US wanted to destabilize NK international trade by sowing doubt on NK currency transactions. Its financial assets in a Macau bank was also frozen about the same time. I read these stories but don't know what to believe, so I believe nothing.
