The moderate wing will realize what the DLC did after 1988, which is that disconnecting your party from the average voter's concerns and coming across as the mean and shrill party doesn't win elections. You can't win people over by driving up your own negatives.

Moderates know that. Activists will never believe it. The fact that their grand guru, Rove, go them into power by a whisker a couple of times will probably make it harder for the party to shake off that legacy and reinvent itself.

The British Conservative Party should come back to power in a year or two, offering an updated model of what a more centrist conservative party can be like.
