It is not the role of economic to "get us out of an economic depression", economics can merely describe it.

It's like saying my house is half burnt-down and still on fire, so I need some school of economics to tell me how to make it so my home never caught on fire. It's not possible - the damage is done.

Economics is like fire safety. It can provide you information on how to prevent fires, and even how to put the fire out, but it can't tell you how to go back in time and make your house new again like it never had a fire. You're looking for a charismatic liar like Adolph Hitler, not economics.

Once you take on too much debt, relative to income, the results are going to be very predictable and will not be to your liking.
