mindmeld:

Do you really believe that if the situation was reversed and it was McCain with a 20 year association with David Duke and calling David Duke his spiritual advisor, that the press wouldn't be all over it and McCain would be totally discredited?

It is true that if someone "comes into contact" with someone it is not a big deal, but it is legitimate to explore the extent of an association with nefarious characters. With regard to Ayers the fact that Obama was not honest in his initial statement regarding his relationship with Ayers, makes me wary. The fact that instead of coming clean, he chooses to maintain that it is no big deal makes me wary. It may turn out that it is no big deal, but why the dissembling? I think he shares Ayers views and he doesn't want to let that be known. I may be wrong but Obama is not acting like an innocent in this situation.

Bill Ayers, an unrepentant domestic terrorist, is one of Obama's longtime close associates. Anyone who would chum around with Bill Ayers shouldn't be elected to any public position, IMO.
