The hope of the moderate Obama voter is that he is very practical and has a long view on the country. His campaign showed an impressive large picture ability, not swayed by the moment or a need for immediate gratification. Whether he can control the wild-eyed part of the Senate remains to be seen, but right now, he shows enormous restraint. I don't think he will gamble his legacy in the beginning with anything half-cooked and so sure to inflame people.

I am knocking on my desk wildly right now. Both for the above, and because it's bad luck to think ahead like this!!!!

Why would Democrats do that? What would be the motivation?

Whatever the exact result of the US elections tomorrow, we must assume that the whole governing machinery of Washington and the state capitols will soon be hostile to laissez-faire thinking.

I really don't see how one can reach that conclusions. It strikes me, again, as overwrought fear. There will certainly be more regulation. The pendulum simply went too far. But that's all.

I've noticed his writing recently: the Telegraph is pretty good for news and sport coverage, but over the last couple of years its business/finance opinions have become increasingly unexpected.

Scan his recent articles: he's definitely not a happy man.
