Yes, most states are sharply divided between urban and rural counties, when you look at CNN's county maps. But the 2000 and 2004 results helped to encourage the notion that "real America" is a contiguous heartland excluding the Left Coast, New England and the upper Midwest. It will be harder to promote that idea if three mountain west states go for Obama, plus IA and maybe VA/NC/FL. Like the famous album, politicians need to answer for their sins and be sentenced to tear down the walls.
