I don't disagree with you MM.. But do you think permitting illegal immigrants to live in subsidized housing, use our medical facilities, and be a general burden upon the taxpayer base is the solution? You want immigration of skilled labor and so do I. Again, my GF is very skilled, and she has been required to pay THOUSANDS of dollars in lawyer and application fees every couple of years to enable her to work in this country. She's never lived in subsidized housing, and everytime her H-1B visa expires she has to get a new driver's license. Hell, there was a period of time when her visa application was delayed for renewal and her vehicle had to remain parked because her license expired on the same day. So I really don't understand why you're so sympathetic to those illegals who inserted themselves ahead of qualified immigrant applicants desirous of actually living here and becoming citizens. It's hard enough to get H-1B visas without the nationwide resentment that has been generated by these masses of illegals. And on a more personal level, I don't understand why someone can be aware that their grandma is sick with cancer, but not aware that a close Aunt is living in the US illegally. Again.. we're in a situation now where it's nearly impossible to deport every illegal alien. HOWEVER, there is nothing that prevents us (all political factions) to pass the necessary legislation that grants able-bodied and "law-abiding" (no criminal record) illegals the ability to remain here on an official work visa, and benefits provided through their employers. If they choose to be accompanied by dependents, they then become solely responsible for their care and well-being, at no expense to the taxpayer. This should quickly "vet" those who actually wish to remain here, while opening up positions for those who have always wanted to move here, but couldn't obtain a visa legally. That's why I insisted that your indifference is part of the problem. And it's why I stated that Obama is part of the problem, not the solution. You can properly fault both sides of the political aisle for kow-towing to their local business constituencies who have become dependent upon illegal labor. But the democrats bear a disproportionate responsibility for using taxpayer dollars to give them benefits, pensions, driver's licenses and taxpayer subsidized housing. McCain and Obama can mouth the same words on illegal immigration, but I have far more confidence that McCain will actually do something about it. Hell, in Obama's case, he could have EASILY SPONSORED his Aunt to become a legal resident here. He would have been responsible for her well-being and care, but he has the money to do it. answers.google.com But he didn't and he foisted that burden upon you and I.. the taxpayers. And if that doesn't weigh as a factor in your support for Obama, then the next time you hear about the problems with illegal immigration, look in the mirror. Hawk
