Hi sulcus, there are a couple things wrong with that white vote metric. 1) I'd love to see the breakout of that white vote along the lines of age. I'd bet many are older. Older folks have REAL trouble voting for a black man. Unfortunately, old attitudes die hard and usually only die with the passing away of an older generation. 2) Going forward there are going to be more and more Presidents elected without winning the "white" vote, because this nation is fundamentally changing. Minorities are becoming the majority. So if it hasn't happened already, white will be the minority. One last comment. The Republican Party has spent the last 8 years alienating themselves from minorities, moderates, women and young people. The Republican Party is now a party at the margins instead of a party that represents a broad swath of the American people. So unless they rebuild a broad coalition, there is going to be a long winter for the neocon Republicans.
