"I don't even want to get inside his head on that one."

I can't leave it alone. I have to assume that his advisers aren't complete morons. I don't see how she could seriously have been on any list. But, when you consider that at the time, McCain was sinking fast and the obvious reason was he was so closely tied to unpopular Bush policies. And it was brutally clear that he couldn't change that because his only solid base would leave him. The only thing that Palin could bring to the table was that very same base. Which is what puzzled me at the time. But, it makes sense if he was going to use that to go all mavericky.

However, it looks like he got lulled into complacency when she became a superstar. In addition, resources were devoted to bring her up to speed and McCain was left to hang. So he started to drift instead of revamping his approach.

So he didn't shift when he should have.

John,
"Obviously a huge strategic political error"

Seemed like a worthwhile risk at the time. The polls were shifting toward Obama and nothing appeared to get American to pay attention to McCain back in August. Atleast Palin shook things up and gave him a shot. On the hindsight he should have announced Palin VP candidacy and Scheduled Convention on Halloween day!

Given how Bush operated and where the country is, it is surprising that the race was even close. Give credit to the blind faith Republican put in their leader, regardless of their performance.

Bum.

Just voted......no lines but the polling place had moved and was greatly expanded. Some interesting observations......steady stream of people.....the most I had ever seen at this polling place......day or nite. A number of people took the day off from work. And for the first time, there were young people manning the tables where you sign it. Usually, its a lot of little old ladies.

We should know something in 4 hours........what a long march!

Obama, Obama, Obama............
