"The Republicans paint a picture of the 'real Americans' versus the rest of American (the 'unreal Americans'?) How come when Palin talks about the 'real' small town America, it's always a mostly white small town?" I haven't noticed that. Real America is the America of History, which is represented by modern people who stand up for American values, principles, and interests. The People who actually work to create a culture of life based on principle, who labor to create an infrastructure and who fund government are deserving of leaders who represent them, rather than manipulation by those who promise to fix them or fix things for them, when they have never produced a frigg'n thing themselves. Palin is one of those real American people.
