Then why was Palin pushing the 'palling around with terrorists' line? I know people who adore Palin, and thus assumed that Ayers and Obama were plotting the next 9/11.

You are misunderestimating, to borrow a Bushism, the small amount of mistruth needed to influence rabid LIV loyalists.

He knows some worn out old hippie who is a school teacher now.

I think that some of Obama's opponents make too much, perhaps even far to much, of the issue, its not like Ayers is Obama's VP candidate or campaign manager.

But there connection was a bit close than just knowing each other, and Ayers in addition to being a "worn out old hippie" is also an unrepentant terrorist.
