I find it interesting is all.. I understand how your system works basically, electoral college etc but I never really paid attention to one of your elections before.. <<

Since we have only the two parties, essentially, most elections since the 60s have been won with margins like this. During years when there is a strong third-party candidate, we've seen victories with less than 50% of the vote.

In 1992, it was Clinton 40.18 - Bush 38.35, with Ross Perot accounting for most of the rest.

The past 16 years have been marked by extremely bitter partisanship, with "wedge issues" being used to divide voters. It's my hope that we can overcome that mindset, and get back to some sort of civility and mutual respect between political adversaries.
